anthropoSCENE: Film and Climate Justice in Asia and Africa
A film festival organized by the Rosa Luxemburg Stiftung and ZMO, curated by Ali Nobil Ahmad (ZMO)

AnthropoSCENE: film and climate justice in Asia and Africa addresses the planetary ecological crisis of global warming from the perspective of the global South. AnthropoSCENE is a four day programme of short and feature length films showcasing recent filmmaking from Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Bringing together artists, filmmakers, activists, journalists and academics whose work addresses climate change, it features a wide array of documentaries and art films from Nepal to Niger, Kuwait to South Africa and beyond.

Open House Day - Tag der offenen Tür
European Heritage Days

As last year ZMO organizes its open house day in cooperation with the Historische Kommission zu Berlin. Visitors get an insight into the research of the two institutions in different lectures under the title "City - Power - Pomp". Additionally the program offers a concert by the cross-repertoire band Mückenheimer from Potsdam, a children program with a reading from Ferdowsis famous "Shahnameh", street food by REFUEAT, as also guided tours through ZMO's working place, the more than 100 years old Mittelhof, build by famous German architect Hermann Muthesius. The open house day takes place in coordination with the Berlin-wide Open Heritage Day in the framework of the European Heritage Days.

The Prophet as a Man
Key note lecture by Peter Wien (University of Maryland) as part of the conference ‘New Man’ in Africa, Asia and the Middle East: Practices, Networks and mobilization 1910-1960

The paper will trace the usage of the Prophet Muhammad as a model figure for the ‘New Man’ at the intersection of religious and nationalist discourses in the context of political mobilization in the Arab world of the 20th century. At the turn of the century, the emergence of urban mass societies in the wake of the integration of the Middle East and North Africa into an imperialist world economic system created a breeding ground for radical political organization among young men, who experienced alienation as a consequence of enhanced mobility from the countryside to the city, or sought re-orientation as graduates from modern institutions of learning...

Christiane-Rajewsky-Award

The German Association for Peace and Conflict Studies (Arbeitsgemeinschaft für Friedens- und Konfliktforschung e.V. - AFK) is a scientific association of peace researchers and institutions from various disciplines, particularly from German-speaking countries.  Each year, the AFK awards the Christiane-Rajewsky-Award for young researchers or initiatives that have made an outstanding contribution to peace and conflict research.

The price money amounts 2.500 €. Applications for the Christiane-Rajewsky-Award have to be submitted in electronic form until November 1, 2017. Generally, written works with a relevant peace and conflict research focus come into question.
